Kelsea Ballerini officially became the newest and youngest member of the Grand Ole Opry last night (Tuesday, April 16th) in Nashville. The 25-year-old was welcomed into the institution by one of her idols, Carrie Underwood, with whom she dueted on Trisha Yearwood's “Walkaway Joe” during the show.
Keith Urban also turned up to welcome Kelsea and perform one song — “Blue Ain't Your Color” — for the excited crowd.
An emotional Kelsea spoke with reporters backstage prior to her induction where she talked about the comfort that being an Opry member brings her. “I'm so new. I'm such a baby artist and to be able to play this stage once is a dream but to be able to know that I can play this stage in 30 years when the radio quits me and when touring quits me, it's really comforting and it's really beautiful so I'm really excited. Crap! (reporters laugh).”
Kelsea returns to the road and her headlining Miss Me More tour with a show tonight (Wednesday, April 17th) in Salem, VA followed by a stop in her hometown of Knoxville, TN on Thursday (April 18th).
